Interactive OPERA
Interactive virtual environments for Objective evaluation of Psychophysical Effects based on bRain Activity.
Overview
- Presence, virtual body ownership, stress and anxiety are used to facilitate virtual reality applications in areas such as entertainment, therapy, teaching, and training.
- Biometric measures pledge to become viable alternatives to the de-facto standard of subjective ratings via questionnaires.
- They provide objective and continuous measurements without breaking the exposure.
- The electroencephalogram (EEG) is one of these promising alternatives that offers a non-invasive window to the brain activity with a millisecond-ranged temporal resolution.
Goals
The main goal is to develop are objective measurement methods by
- replicating conditions that are rated with high/low ratings of psychophysical effects by means of questionnaires.
- adapting the experimental design to be compatible with brain activity measurements.
- measuring brain activity during the respective trials.
- identifying differences in the recorded brain activity that correspond to the differences in the subjective presence ratings.
