Unreal Pit Improvement

Background / Hintergrund
The Unreal Pit is a Virtual Reality (VR) simulation of a precipice (i.e. a very steep rock face), capable of inducing a compelling fear of heights (aka acrophobia).
This installation has been developed by the HCI group during previous projects and theses (video here).
One key aspect of this system is that it supports full-body avatar embodiment. User can see a virtual body (i.e. an avatar) instead of their own body. The virtual body is synchronised in space and in time with the user’s real body’s movements and location.
This virtual body adds more realism to the virtual scene (users can see themselves in the virtual world), and so improves the illusion of place and plausibility of the entire virtual environment.
Task / Aufgabenstellung
The aim on this project is to improve the current version by providing a new environment, task and avatar.
This task will mostly involve:
- Using the Unreal Game Engine 3.0: UDK
- Using the *UnrealMe *Framework
