Girls’ Day 2026 – VR entdecken, gestalten & verstehen
23 Apr 2026
On April 23, 2026, we welcomed twelve students to the Chair of Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Würzburg as part of this year’s Girls’ Day initiative.
Our workshop, titled “VR entdecken, gestalten & verstehen”, introduced participants to the fundamentals of virtual reality through a combination of short inputs and interactive, hands-on sessions. The goal was to provide an accessible and engaging entry point into XR technologies while encouraging curiosity for computer science and research.
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to:
- Experience immersive virtual environments firsthand
- Learn how VR systems are designed and developed
- Explore how interaction, perception, and embodiment play a role in XR
- Discuss real-world applications of VR in areas such as healthcare, education, and training
A strong focus was placed on active participation—allowing everyone to not only try VR, but also understand the ideas behind it.
Beyond the technical aspects, the workshop also aimed to highlight pathways into studying computer science and working in research. We encouraged questions, discussions, and exchanges about academic life, career opportunities, and the role of women in tech.
Events like Girls’ Day are an important step toward making STEM fields more inclusive and approachable. We were glad to contribute to this initiative and to share our enthusiasm for XR with the next generation.
