Reality Stack Embodiment Workshop
16 May 2025
On May 16th, 2025, members of the HCI and PIIS groups gathered in the White Labs of the CAIDAS Building for an intensive, hands-on Reality Stack Embodiment Workshop. Organized by Florian Kern, Jonathan Tschanter, and Christian Merz, the event brought together employees and student workers to explore the groups’ XR embodiment solution using Unity 6 and the Meta Quest 3.
Over the course of the half-day session (09:00 – 12:00), participants worked in small teams to develop an XR embodiment prototype. Using Reality Stack IO, a cross-device and cross-platform framework, they integrated the Meta Quest 3 with controllers. For character animation, they applied Character Processors, a modular pipeline enabling real-time retargeting and optimization. Full-body poses were generated from three tracking points (head-mounted display and controllers) using Final IK, an advanced inverse kinematics implementation.
Thanks to clear materials and practical guidance, even newcomers to Reality Stack were able to leave with a functioning XR prototype and a deeper understanding of avatar embodiment workflows. The workshop concluded with a feedback questionnaire and an open discussion round to get valuable insights for future improvements.
Special thanks go to all participants for their curiosity and engagement, and to the organizers for making the workshop a success.
As a fitting end to the productive morning, everyone gathered for a pizza lunch.
